(Bloomberg) – The government of Chinese President Xi Jinping is asking Chinese citizens to think twice before boarding a flight to the US, expanding Beijing’s response to Trump’s high tariff increases.
“Given the worsening of trade relations between China and the USA and concerns about security in the United States, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism advises Chinese citizens to carefully evaluate the risks of traveling to the United States and proceeding with caution,” the ministry said on a warning on Wednesday night.
This measure occurred after Beijing retaliated again against the new tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, announcing that he would impose markets and deepen the trade war among the largest economies in the world.
The China Ministry of Education also warned the country’s students on the assessment of safety risks related to “certain American states”, citing a new Bill approved in Ohio.
During the COVID-19 crisis, China issued a travel alert against the US in April 2020, when the Ministry of Culture and Tourism asked citizens not to travel there due to “excessive covid-19 prevention measures and internal security situation”.
