After a long wait for the fans, Flamengo confirmed on their social networks that striker Pedro returns to the lawns on Wednesday (9), against Central Cordoba, by Libertadores.
The striker was related by coach Filipe Luis and will be available after seven months absent due to a serious knee injury ,.
Pedro normally trains with the group a week ago and, according to the planning of the coaching staff, should receive minutes in the second round of Libertadores.
“After nearly seven months of intense recovery, striker Pedro is again related to a match for Flamengo. He was included by coach Philip Luís on the list of players who will face Central Cordoba, in a match valid for Libertadores. The reunion with the red-black crowd will be on Wednesday (9), in Maracanã,” said the club.
Pedro’s injury
The Flamengo striker broke the cruciate ligament in early September 2024, while training with the cast of the Brazilian team aiming at the dispute of the qualifiers.
At that time of the season, Pedro was an absolute scorer of Flamengo and Brazil, with 35 goals. The injury was even one of the main reasons for, after eliminating Peñarol in Libertadores.
He underwent surgery that same month and has since been doing physical therapy. In March, he returned to work with ball on the pitch, although separated from the rest of the cast.
The expectation of standard recovery for such injuries is nine to twelve months, but Pedro has evolved well and was able to recover 60 days ahead of expected. Therefore, Flamengo adopts caution in return, the famous cargo control.
The red-black faces Central Cordoba from 9:30 pm (Brasília), in Maracanã. The Rio team leads group C of Libertadores, having won the debut against Deportivo Táchira, from Venezuela.
