During the fight against large fire that hit an automotive center and a dealership in Cruzeiro do Sul, interior of Acre, Sergeant Edmilson Júnior, from the Fire Department, had to be attended by the Samu team after physical exhaustion. In an exciting account, the military shared the moments of tension experienced during the occurrence and highlighted the commitment of the firefighters to the mission of saving lives, even in the face of personal risk.

“When Marceli (local owner) called me saying that Super was on fire, I was going to a meeting. I saw that black smoke, very dense, and ran straight to the barracks. The garrison had already been triggered, so I took my equipment and went straight to the place,” said Edmilson.

With the mobilization still in progress and the activated call plan, many military personnel arrived at the scene while the material was still organized. Amid chaos, the sergeant says that to avoid further damage, it was necessary to enter the structure to remove vehicles from the shed in flames, requiring extreme physical exertion. “We had to come in and take several vehicles. It was a lot of physical effort, and then came a tiredness unusual,” he said.

Feeling the effects of exhaustion, the firefighter went to the waiting area, where he tried to recover with water and rest. “When I went back to the front line, I realized it wasn’t 100%yet. So, following our protocol, I voluntarily went to the ambulance to get some oxygen and replace the energies.”

In the ambulance, however, the situation was more worrying than it seemed. The SAMU team identified changes in the sergeant’s vital signs and decided to refer him to the Juruá Hospital for more detailed exams. “I was very well attended by the boys of Samu, who were exceptional, and then in the hospital too. Thank God, everything went well.”

After medical release, Edmilson returned to the fire site just to seek his equipment. “I thank everyone who worried, who sent a message. I’m 100%,” he said, emphasizing the pride of belonging to the corporation.

Closing his testimony, the sergeant reinforced the spirit of readiness that moves the firefighters. “No matter where we are, if in another secretariat or out of operational service. When you need the firefighter, we wear the equipment and go up. It’s what runs in our veins, this desire to help more and more. And that’s it.

The fire was controlled after several hours of intense work, with the support of several teams. No victim was recorded, and the causes of fire follow under investigation.
