With the IRS 2025 campaign already underway, many taxpayers await the arrival of the long -awaited refund.
Although the legal deadline for tax return only ends on August 31, the history of recent years shows that in many cases the reimbursement is made in the first weeks after the statement was delivered.
According to information advanced by the Ministry of Finance, this year is expected to process returns to be faster, namely for taxpayers covered by automatic IRS.
In 2023, the first refunds began to be paid about 13 days after the campaign began.
How to consult the state of the refund
To find out if the IRS reimbursement has already been issued, just access the finance portal. The process is simple and can be done in a few minutes:
-Ided to the official website in PortaldasFinancas.gov.pt.
-In the main menu, select “finances” in the lower left corner.
-Click on “services” and then “financial movements”.
-Sites “Financial Information”.
-Autheth with your portal access credentials.
-Solidate the tax type (IRS) and the fiscal year to which it refers (2024).
If the reimbursement has already been issued, the amount will be visible and you can click “See Detail” to consult additional information about the state of processing.

When does the refund arrives?
According to the Tax and Customs Authority (), the reimbursements are processed after the statement of the declaration, which is made in chronological order.
The speed of payment depends on factors such as the type of declaration submitted (automatic or model 3) and the existence, or not, of errors or divergences detected in the verification of the data.
Although the payment deadline goes until the end of August, most taxpayers who deliver the statement in the early days usually receive the amount in April or May.
What if the value is zeros?
If the “amount issued” field appears to zeros, it is likely that the statement is still in the validation phase or that the settlement has not yet been processed.
This is a common state in the early days after IRS delivery. Therefore, the periodic consultation of the portal is advised.
