The Planalto Palace and the Ministry of Communications presented, on Tuesday (8), discrepant versions for the (-ma) of the position.
At about 7:15 pm, Juscelino issued a letter defined his request for dismissal as a difficult decision, “a gesture of respect for the Brazilian government and the Brazilian people.”
“Today I made one of the most difficult decisions of my public trajectory. I asked President Luiz Inacio da Silva my dismissal from the position of Minister of Communications,” says the text.
“I didn’t do it for lack of commitment, quite the contrary. I go out to believe that, at this moment, the most important thing is to protect the country project we help build and I keep believing.”
In the letter, the former minister says he received unconditional support from Lula. “A leader to whom I admire deeply and who always assured me freedom and supports to work with autonomy and courage.”
About 45 minutes after the release of the note, at 20h, Secom (Secretariat of Communication) of the Presidency officially informed that Juscelino delivered the position by determination of the president.
According to Secom’s report, Lula called Juscelino in the early afternoon and requested that Juscelino resigned to dedicate himself to the defense. “The Presidency Secretariat of Communication informs that Lula called Juscelino and asked him to deliver the position.”
Prior to this report, members of the government, including the palace, disseminated the version that the initiative had departed in Juscelino himself – narrative discarded by Secom’s report.
Juscelino left the Lula administration after being by (Attorney General’s Office) on charges of passive corruption and other crimes related to the deviation of amendments.
Last year, after Juscelino was indicted, Lula stated that he would be dismissed if he was denounced by PGR.
Licensed federal deputy, elected by União Brasil do Maranhão, he denied the accusations that he is targeted and stated that, when leaving, protects “the country project we help build and in which I keep believing”.
