The Public Prosecution Service of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) filed a complaint against the retired lieutenant Carlos Alberto de Jesus, accusing him of two attempts of doubly qualified homicide. The incident occurred at dawn on February 24, in the neighborhood of Penha, where the policeman fired against student Igor Melo de Carvalho and motorcyclist Thiago Marques Gonçalves. Carlos Alberto justified his action claiming that he believed that the victims had stolen his wife’s cell phone, Josilene da Silva Souza. The MPRJ decided to file the accusations against Igor and Thiago on March 8.
