Package allocates most of the funds to reinforce the warranty lines in the development bank, at a time when Trump “threatens world economic growth,” announces Montenegro.
The government approved this Thursday the program to reinforce, available, which aims to respond to the tariff war situation that began by Donald Trump. After the announcement of temporary truce in 75 countries, the European Union also announced that it goes for three months. But government measures are intended for the country.
The Prime Minister spoke to the country this Thursday after the Council of Ministers, where they discussed support to the companies that export to the US, and announced a 10,085 million package of euros to help trade.
The measures arise after the opposition, with Pedro Nuno Santos to negatively compare the government’s inertia to the 14 billion euros package presented a week ago by the Spanish socialist government. The answer now comes with a variety of measures that seek to respond to economic instability.
“It’s not time for adventures” and “never stability, experience, prudence and political maturity have been so decisive,” commented the prime minister, criticizing the “imprisonment and precipitation of some national agents.” It’s time, he says, “having adults in the room.”
“The increase in tariffs that the United States yesterday began to apply but in the meantime suspended threatens world economic growth And it can lead to a commercial conflict that, from our perspective, doesn’t benefit anyone, ”said Luís Montenegro.
It is in this context that the government dedicates the largest slice of this package to reinforcement of the funding lines of the funding bank: 8685 million euros. Another 1.200 million euros will be reserved for Export Credit Insuranceand 200 million are intended to reinforce the support for internationalization.
As Luís Montenegro recalls, “it may seem distant”, but “Portugal is an open economy whose growth is based on exports to increasingly diverse markets. The US is the fourth destination of our exports. ”
