Cigarettes are an expensive passion. And from this month you will pay even more…
According to the Statistical Office in the Czech Republic, about 24 % of people smoke. Of these, 31 % of men and 19 % of women aged 15 and over are. “Smoking calms me down. I need almost more than food,” admits fifty -year -old Jindřiška from Prague, who allegedly clogged for cigarettes in puberty. Since then, her smoking passion has deepened. She smokes two boxes of cigarettes a day and she is “crawling into money”. Now, however, they will pay a few crowns for their “tobacco boost”. How do you?
New but more expensive
“Everything is becoming more expensive – food, energy and now cigarettes? They are crazy,” laments another smoker, Mr. Karel of Litvínov, who was bought in advance of cigarettes. In one Journal, he read that he would increase cigarettes, so he left nothing to chance. Since 1 January 2025, the rate of cigarettes and tobacco increased by 5 %. Since traders sold out “old supplies”, the price increase was gradual.
Wide offer at different price
From 31. 3. 2025, however, all unsold cigarettes with the old stamp went to the incinerator. And so it is on the shelves since 1 April “new batch”, which is more expensive. The price increase is about five crowns per box. It’s not much, but with a greater consumption of a smoker, it “collects”. According to tables, there are three types of cigarettes – “economic” (for example, Mark Adams, Bacco Blue Compact, King Compact Nimbo/Strato), which start from 142 crowns. Then the middle class (for example, Corset Mauve/Pink, Reach Amethyst/Blue), which starts from 146 – 152 crowns. Who would like premium brands (for example, Davidoff Reshape Black/White, Yellow Soft, Touch) must count on a fee of 160 – 175 crowns per box.
Cigarettes versus sprinkled tobacco
Of course, there is a more luxurious version of cigarettes, such as Dunhill International for 192 crowns… If you are a holiday smoker, you do not mind such a “bat”, but if you smoke a few dozen cigarettes per day it can cost you pretty expensive… Similarly, there are a lot of Czechs who are trying to save at least some minimum crowns on tobacco.
Open -end action
It seems to be an effort to reduce the consumption of tobacco products for the increase in cigarettes. “Many smokers will start looking for other nicotine alternatives than traditional cigarettes. For example, the fillings for heated tobacco equipment (such as GLO) are significantly cheaper,” says the expert, adding that the state has given lower tax rates because this tobacco dependence is less harmful than classic cigarettes. What will smokers say? Will they resist economic pressure or simply reduce other expenses just to hold their passion?
