After a woman being killed by her ex-husband, councilman proposes march against femicide in Rio Branco

The execution of Janice da Rocha Lima, 40, was the subject of an extensive debate on femicide in the Rio Branco Chamber during the session on Thursday (10). Faced with the situation, one of the parliamentarians proposed to carry out a march in defense of women’s lives.

The crime occurred on Wednesday night (9), in the Six of August neighborhood, in the second district. According to family reports, Janice was at home with her son, Jhonatas, 21, when former partner, Gilberto Francisco, arrived on a red motorcycle.

The proposal was presented by Councilman João Paulo (Somos), who at the time also asked for a minute of silence in memory of the victim. The councilman regretted what happened and criticized the lack of effectiveness in public policies aimed at protecting women.

“Unfortunately, one more woman died victim of femicide in Rio Branco. It saddens us how these policies are being conducted, which need to be played more incisively. Or will we continue to treat it as normal?” He asked.
