“Memory bags” project protects the environment, has a more empathic and careful approach, and strengthens the relationship between institution and families.
The local health unit (ULS) of Braga bet on humanization health care, Care at the end of life. And that’s why there is a project that presents itself as an innovative.
The project is called “Memories Bags” and is inspired by the recognized Modelo swan, Developed by nurse Fiona Murphy. It has been applied in 70 hospitals spread across the planet.
The priority is to provide an environment of respect, dignity and compassion in the mourning process.
In this project there is personalized bags to deliver the belongings of the deceased users to their families.
These bags are made with reuse of non -fabric tissue from the surgical kits used in the operative block.
The symbolic gesture of 2000 custom bags helps the environment: 1112 TNT sheets were reused and avoided 61 kg waste disposal. This (2000 bags) will be the minimum amount produced annually.
In a statement, ULS Braga indicates that this project significantly improves nonverbal communication between health professionals and family membersallowing a more empathic and careful approach.
At the same time, it strengthens the relationship Between the institution and families, reducing possible dissatisfaction and promoting an institutional culture based on sensitivity, empathy and welcoming.
It is a “more humanized and respectful approach in the most difficult times and with environmental sustainability”, explains Marco Sameiro, coordinator of the quality of ULS Braga.
