The chill may only have given a hello and already gone, but the ideal season for mountain sports (they say it’s winter, but lately it will know the difference …) is already in full swing. And to gather all the tribes who like trails, climbing, pedal and varying perrengues will be held, from May 16 to 18, in São Bento do Sapucaí, on the Paulista side of Serra da Mantiqueira and 200 kilometers from the capital, near Campos do Jordão, the 5th edition of the Mountain Festival.
Expected to receive an audience of 6,000 people, access to the Mountain Festival is free and offers activities options for all ages. Some workshops, such as first aid in remote areas, charge a value of $ 180. Sports challenges such as Hike and Fly (free -flight climbing), Trail Race and Mountain Bike Country also charge inscriptions at the same amount. Registrations can be made on the event website here.
In addition to handicrafts and sports equipment, the event will offer lectures, outdoor cinema, workshops, photographic exhibition, live music and a kids space, as well as a food court.
In the event area is not allowed camping, but there are several options of camping, inns and hotels in the region, one of the most sought after by mountaineers.
“Since Covid-19 pandemic has further popularized outdoor sports, with a significant and very positive increase in the search for outdoor activities, this growth has brought a new challenge of how to take these people to the right way, safely, autonomy and, above all, with the knowledge necessary to respect the environment,” says Michele Dutra, organizer of the event and enthusiastic mountaineer.
The idea that permeates the structure of the festival is precisely this, he adds. “We operate to foster outdoor activities consciously and, for this, we offer the varied programming, which aims to prepare the public for this universe, always with responsibility.”
Among the confirmed presences, Michele highlights that of Aretha Duarte, the first Latin American black woman to climb Everest, Karina Oliani, a doctor and athlete in love with extreme sports, and the couple of the Family Bike project, which went with 3 children from Brazil to the bicycle Ushuaia.
“These are all motivation stories to get anyone out of the couch,” says Michele, who dreams of bringing the project to other states. “What is missing is a great sponsor, because ideas, experiences and initiatives are not lacking in this rich and diverse scenario throughout the country.”
