National Honey Contest again values ​​Portuguese beekeeping

The 16th National Honey Competition, promoted by the National Agriculture Fair/Ribatejo Fair, in partnership with the FNAP-National Federation of Apiculturators of Portugal, takes place this Thursday and Friday at CNEMA, in Santarém, and this year beaten the record of registration since its inception.

In test are 96 honey samples, from 56 national producers, a number that underlines the growing relevance of the contest as a stage of promotion of Portuguese beekeeping and the quality of honey produced in Portugal.

The samples in the contest represent some of the main floras of the national territory, namely Urzes, Rosmaninho, chestnut tree, incense, eucalyptus and multifloral, among other regional varieties that attest to the country’s bee diversity.

Since the first edition, it has evaluated more than 780 samples from 234 producers, reinforcing its role as a monster of excellence of Portuguese beekeeping and meeting point between producers, experts and consumers.

The event is also a platform for the valorization of national production, promoting the recognition of the quality and uniqueness of Portuguese honey, in a context increasingly aware of the sustainability, authenticity and proximity of food production.
