A van from Daniel Cristóvão (LDC), a non-profit institution that offers free service to people with disabilities and their families, was stolen on the morning of last Wednesday (10), at the Barros Filho neighborhood, North Zone of Rio. The vehicle was returning from a food collection when it was intercepted by criminals.
The van, adhesive with the visual identity of the LDC and the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, had left early toward Ceasa to seek groceries that would be distributed among the families served by the institution, whose headquarters is in Sulacap, in the West Zone.
Around 11:20 am, on the way back, the driver was approached by. According to his report, the robbers approached quickly and announced the theft with shouts of “descends, descends, go, take!”. He had his belongings taken, including cell phone and bank cards. The van, with all the food load, was also taken.
In an interview with CNNthe institution’s coordinator, Priscila Lopes, regretted what happened.
“Unfortunately, even though she is adhesive, with the logo of the institution and the city, she could not avoid the robbery,” he said.
Frustration is even greater in considering that the vehicle was the only means of transport used precisely to assist in serving people with disabilities.
With over 55 years of history, Daniel Cristóvão’s home is a civil society organization recognized for its work in promoting social inclusion. Founded in 1968 as a shelter for risky children and adolescents, the LDC passed in 2003 to offer specialized and free care to people with disabilities and their families. Reference in the West Zone of Rio, the institution maintains its activities through donations, partnerships and solidarity initiatives.
The case was initially registered at the 33rd Police Station (Realengo) and will be investigated by the 40th DP (Honório Gurgel).
