Agreement joins two traditional Italian luxury companies; Completion of the transaction is scheduled for the 2nd semester of 2025
Prada announced the acquisition of Versace for 1.25 billion euros ($ 1.4 billion), including debts. The agreement was released on Thursday (10.br.2025) after weeks of conversations between companies. Operation unites two traditional Italian luxury fashion brands in a global market consolidation context.
Prada seeks to expand its influence on the slowdown of demand in the sector. Versace, in turn, faces recent damage and sees in Prada an opportunity for revitalization. The transaction takes place less than a month after the announcement on March 13 about the departure of Donatella Versace from the creative direction of the brand founded by his brother Gianni Versace.
“Our goal is to continue the legacy of Versace, celebrating and reinterpreting its bold and timeless aesthetics”said Patrizio Bertelli, president of Prada. He and Miuccia Prada, his wife and co-leader of the brand, highlighted their commitment to strengthening Versace through continuous investments.
Donatella Versace, who saw her family sell the business 7 years ago, supported the partnership. “It is an honor to have the mark in the hands of such a reliable Italian family business and I am ready to support this new era of Versace in every way I can.”he said.
The current value of the transaction is less than US $ 2.15 billion paid by Capri Holdings, current owner of Versace, in 2018. To finance the acquisition, Prada will take 1.5 billion euros in new debts as part of its expansion strategy.
The transaction was approved by Prada and Capri Holdings’s administration councils. The conclusion is scheduled for the 2nd semester of 2025, subject to usual conditions, including regulatory approvals.
Versace was founded in 1978 in Milan and operates in the high standard fashion segment. The acquisition by Prada aims to expand brand operations and integrate their activities with the Italian group.
