President Donald Trump is willing to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping while commercial tensions between the two countries increase.
“Oh, of course, he is my friend. I like him,” Trump said on Wednesday afternoon, when questioned by a reporter would consider talking or meeting with the Chinese leader.
“Of course, I would get together with him,” he said.
Earlier, Trump announced that he would increase rates on China to 125% after Beijing imposes additional retaliatory tariffs on US products. During another event at the White House, the US president said he believed that “China wants to make a deal.”
Trump, who answered questions after signing some executive orders, said that Japan, South Korea and other countries “are here and we are trying to see them,” but has not explained if they referred to authorities in these countries to be in Washington or if there are meetings being scheduled.
In recent days, Trump had said that Japan and South Korea have been sending representatives to the US to discuss an agreement.
“Everyone wants to make a deal, in fact. We want to do what is right for our country, and also what is right for the world,” said Trump.
Context: Trump spoke after the closure of US markets, which fired after he published on social networks that he authorized a 90 -day break in “reciprocal” tariffs, except for China.
