The vice president of the FIA (International Automobile Federation), Robert Reid, announced his resignation on Thursday (10), while criticizing the governance of the category harshly under the command of the president of the entity, Mohammed Ben Suulayem, in a statement published in X.
“I assumed this function to contribute to greater transparency, stronger governance and more collaborative leadership. Based on my principles, I can no longer remain part of a system that no longer reflects them,” said Reid, FIA vice president of sport since Ben Suulaym was elected to the entity’s command in December 2021.
“Over time, I witnessed a constant erosion of the principles we swear to defend. Retreating was not easy, but it would mean compromising what I believe,” he added.
In response, the FIA thanked Reid for its “contribution” to the development of motorsport and responded to its statement.
“The FIA has exceptionally rigorous corporate governance policies that guide operations and ensure compliance with our rules, practices and processes,” he noted.
