Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said on Thursday, 10, that he is not interested in reducing penalties of the January 8 prisoners, but in a “wide, general and unrestricted” amnesty.
The declaration-given during a lunch organized by a group of right-wing lawyers who criticizes the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) and the judiciary-is part of a context in which the mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), has been articulated with the Executive and the Supreme Court (STF) in search of an agreement to review the penalties of the convicts.
Bolsonaro met on Wednesday, 9, with Motta to address the theme. As showed the Estadão columnthe mayor addressed the issue with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva during a recent trip to Japan and has already talked to at least five court ministers: Alexandre de Moraes, Luiz Fux, Dias Toffoli, Luís Roberto Barroso and Gilmar Mendes.
Motta resists and became the target of the demonstration led by the former president last Sunday, 5, on Paulista Avenue. The deputy has made appeals to the, saying that his responsibility is not to increase “an institutional crisis”.
Bolsonaro’s PL, however, insists on trying to bring the urgent request to vote in the House Plenary.
‘Inflection’
For the former president, there was a “inflection point” in the articulation by the amnesty with the vote of Minister Luiz Fux in the trial that made him defendant in the Supreme for attempted coup and other crimes. At the session, Fux spoke of the possibility of the penalties being reduced.

“Now, we had an inflection point. Filling my wife’s ball here, who spoke very well in Paulista, addressing Minister Fux. There, in my view, it was a fissure that appeared. Another side that seemed impossible. The modulation does not interest us. What interests us, yes, is wide, general and unrestricted amnesty,” said Bolsonaro during lunch.
He referred to the speech of Michelle Bolsonaro (PL) during the act in Sao Paulo. The former first lady said that Supreme Ministers have acted with injustice in defining the penalties and asked Fux not to leave “mothers” in jail.
On the agenda with lawyers -a closed meeting -Bolsonaro also stated that the PL bench “is very close” of the minimum number of signatures for the urgent request to vote the amnesty project in plenary. Party leader, Deputy Sostenes Cavalcante (RJ), no longer disseminating the names of the proposal supporters list. According to the score of Estadão amnesty, there are 201 deputies who declare themselves in favor of the proposal.

The mayor’s advisory confirmed yesterday the meeting between Bolsonaro and Motta. The meeting was not on the parliamentary’s official agenda. At the meeting, the former president again appealed to the mayor.
Yesterday, he went out in defense of Motta and tried to soften the criticism of evangelical pastor Silas Malafaia to the parliamentarian. According to the former president, for not knowing the operation of the National Congress, the pastor does not understand that “you can not resolve in the blow”.
At Sunday’s demonstration, Malafaia said Motta “shames the honorable people of Paraíba” for not guiding the project that grants forgiveness to those involved in the scammers.

Although Bolsonaro’s speech and his amnesty allies to implicate on January 8, it is to reverse unfair convictions, the House-articulated bill has breaches to directly benefit the former president.
Bolsonaro is ineligible until 2030 by decision of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), but insists on putting himself as a pre-candidate to return to the Planalto Palace in 2026, not allowing the possibility of indicating successor at the polls.
