The text, by Deputy Silas Câmara (Republicans-AM), was approved in a symbolic vote. As it was conclusive, it goes to the Senate, where it must be reported by Senator Carlos Viana (Somos-MG).
The project states that the purpose of the date is to “promote reflection, union and spiritual pursuit of the Brazilian nation for the well-being, protection and future of children in the country, as well as reconciliation and forgiveness among citizens.”
In justification, the parliamentarian states that “today’s children will be the nation of tomorrow, and regarding education, it is necessary to highlight the importance and the great need to educate them with quality to achieve the greatest development and progress of our country.”
“Thus, the creation of this national date of October 12 as also the National Day of Fasting, Prayer, Repentance and Forgiveness, from the revelation of the Holy Spirit of Israel: ‘Just as there is the Day of Forgiveness, Jewish, Yom Kippur, we will do in Brazil, October 12, National Day of Fasting, Prayer, Repentance and Forgiveness.'”
The parliamentarian says that the date will not be linked to any religious institution and states that it will be “a great opportunity for the country to reflect on its values and memories since its colonization.”
“May there be great respect, dedication, commitment, and great value for the population to reflect on education problems with children, and can add, making it easier for each of the guardians to fulfill and strengthen their role in favoring quality education for children of the Brazilian nation, our country from tomorrow,” he says.
