China has increased retaliatory tariffs on US imports from 84% to 125%, the Council of State’s tariff commission said in a statement on Friday (11).

Beijing seemed to indicate that he would not increase his rates on American products and 125%, according to a statement from a Ministry of Commerce spokesman.

“The successive imposition of excessively high tariffs on China by the US has become nothing more than a game of numbers, without real economic significance. This only exposes the American practice of using tariffs as a weapon for intimidation and coercion, becoming a joke,” said the spokesman.

“If the US insists on continuing this game of tariff numbers, China will not be involved. However, if the US persists in substantially harming China’s interests, China will take counterclaim and fight to the end.”
