The Kurdistan spoke to Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government in a discussion with Mr. Vassilis Gavalas, Managing Partner, ASININ Limited – International Trade and Development Corporation.
Mr Talabani said that Kurdistan has gone through many difficulties historically and always with errors to survive. Currently, in the fluid geopolitical situation in the Middle East, Kurdistan is a priority to preserve and develop good relations with the US, the EU and the wider region, he explained.
“It is not hidden that we owe a lot and thank the US for their help to get rid of Saddam in 2003. We have never hidden our good relations with the US and that is why with the new Trump governance, our goal is to strengthen relationships,” he said.
Speaking about the future of Kurdistan, he said he was pleased to assure that the two parties that have won the majority of votes in the recent elections are in the final stage of discussions to form a co -operation government.
“Cooperation governments are not easy, but we are in the same chapter on both parties on how Kurdistan’s governance model should be so that it can grow and have stability,” he added.
Kurdistan is now an area with the prospect of growth and investment from abroad. “It is not oil the development sector. Kurdistan oil will be used to grow and improve the conditions of his people. The sector of tourism, agriculture, infrastructure, housing are areas we want to develop and believe that there is an investment interest from abroad, “he explained. For us in Kurdistan and in the wider area of Iraq, it is a priority to improve the life of young people, to give hope and perspective to the rural residents, and to become the Suleimani -technological hub of the area. To this end, we want to build a transparency government that will decide and execute the decisions in the best possible way, which will be transformed to provide digitized services to its citizens and giving women the same opportunities – professional and policies – with men, “he added.
Finally, Mr Talabani announced the cooperation with the Delphi Economic Forum for the organization of the first international conference on the development of the area, which will take place in Suleimaniya on 16 and 17 May 2025.
