The case of betting on illegal platforms that led to long suspensions from Italian players Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Fagioli reached other athletes and former Italian championship players on Friday (11), including Argentines Leandro Paredes and Angel Di María.

According to the Ansa and AGE news agencies, 12 new athletes are being investigated for using these clandestine platforms between December 2021 and October 2023 to bet on various sports, especially poker.

Two names had already been mentioned in 2023, when the case was released: Alessandro Florenzi (AC Milan) and Nicolò Zaniolo (Fiorentina).

Following the analysis of the cell phones of Tonali and Fagioli and their audiences, several Juventus players and former athletes are being investigated, including Weston McKennie and Mattia Perin, Di María and Paredes, as well as Raoul Bellanova (Atalanta) and Samuele Ricci (Torino).

They can be fined 250 euros ($ 272 or $ 1,619 at the current price) and can also face disciplinary proceedings from the Italian Football Federation.

Tonali, who plays for Newcastle, and Fagioli, from Juventus at the time and now with the Fiorentina shirt, received suspensions of ten and seven months, respectively, in October 2023, which they have already fulfilled.

The court, however, has not confirmed the names of the players who are currently being investigated.

World champion with Argentina at Qatar-2022, Di María now plays at Benfica while walls wears Roma’s shirt.
