Body highlights the European “unit” in the tariff pulse with the USA
The Minister of Economy, Carlos Body, has highlighted from Warsaw the “unity” of the EU in the pulse before the commercial war unleashed by the United States and stressed the need to achieve a “fair and balanced agreement.” In full world uncertainty, body has also celebrated the “guarantee point” for Spain, has said, the “robust” growth of the national economy despite tariff threats.
“From Europe we face this situation with a very positive point of unity, a unit in the action that is being demonstrated with the support we are giving to the European Commission for Negotiation and to reach out to the United States,” he said upon arrival at the informal meeting of the Eurogroup and Ecofin in Warsaw.
At the same time, and in the same generalized tone of the EU leaders, he has called to maintain the caution and “not to be naive, to be aware that we also need that proactive attitude by the United States and, in case of not having it, of not being able to reach an agreement, also advancing in the use of the instruments we have at our disposal.”
As indicated, Spain faces this volatile situation “with a guarantee point” that it supposes, he said citing the IMF forecasts that has raised its growth forecasts of the Spanish Gross Domestic Product (GDP) up to 2.5%, a growth model “that is being shown robust” and with the implementation of a “safety and protection network for citizens”.
