Initiative is part of the Health at School program, which seeks to expand vaccination coverage between children and adolescents; Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, defended project: ‘Facilitates the lives of parents’
Next Monday (14), the federal government will start an ambitious which aims to reach almost 30 million students from public schools throughout Brazil. This initiative is part of the health at school program, which aims to increase vaccination coverage between children and adolescents. The campaign will be implemented in about 110,000 schools, covering more than 5,000 cities across the country. Health Minister Alexandre Padilha emphasized the importance of the role of health agents, who will be fundamental to facilitate access to vaccination and other health guidelines directly in schools.
Minister Padilha stressed that the campaign was planned to make life easier for parents, who often face difficulties to bring their children to basic health units due to work commitments. With vaccination occurring in the school environment, children will have the opportunity to receive not only the necessary vaccines, but also oral and mental health care, without having to leave school. Schools, in turn, will be responsible for informing the school community, especially parents, and requesting the consent form for vaccination.
“Facilitates the lives of parents, because often their father and mother are at work and cannot go to the Basic Health Unit. So schools have to warn the school community, especially parents, and ask for their parents ‘consent,’ said Padilha.
In addition to the vaccination campaign, the minister announced the launch of the Digital Health Handbook of the child. This innovative tool will allow families to follow their children’s vaccine history and stay informed about the forecast for next doses. The digital booklet, which can be accessed by mobile, will send active reminders to parents about vaccinating and will provide other relevant health information. The main objective of the Ministry of Health with this campaign is to increase HPV vaccination coverage and immunize 90% of students.
