A law firm she represented announced that she had made a request to the British Ministry of the Interior to remove the Islamist Palestinian movement from a list of terrorist organizations.

In a request posted online by the Riverway Law law firm, Hamas states “that this ban is disproportionate because the organization is not a threat to Britain or British citizens”.

“The right to resist the possession, apartheid and genocide is steadily established in international law,” lawyers also argued in their posting on Platform X, estimating that the ban on Hamas contradicts the principles of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

When asked by the French Bureau for this party, the British Interior Ministry declined to comment.

The Islamist movement, which has control of Gaza, is responsible for the unprecedented attack of October 7, 2023, against Israel, which killed 1,218 people on the Israeli side, mainly civilians, according to an AFP report based on official data.

In retaliation, Israel vowed to crush Hamas and bombed the Gaza Strip, causing the deaths of more than 50,000 people from the start of the war, mainly civilians, according to the Hamas health ministry, whose details are considered to be reliable.

Britain outlawed Hamas’s political part in 2021. The Islamist movement is also considered a terrorist organization, mainly by the United States, the European Union and Israel.

In the past, only the Hamas military side had been outlawed in Britain, but the government ruled that the distinction between the two was “artificial”, describing Hamas as a “complex and single terrorist organization”.

“Whether they support it or hate it, Hamas is embodied today the Palestinian resistance,” said Riverway Law, who filed the application on behalf of one of the leaders of the movement, Musa Abu Marzouk.

Lawyers voluntarily represent the Islamist movement so that it is not in the illegality.

As the organization is outlawed, participation in it, the support of support for it or the costume of its symbols in a public space are a criminal offense.
