It is very common to associate the treatment of obesity to eat less and exercise more. But the role of these two factors is even more complex, after all even though it is a known recipe, The numbers show that few people can follow it to the letter.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in eight people in the world lives with this picture. One of the reasons for this is the appeals of modern society, but it is also necessary to consider the particularities of each individual. “When we say that a certain food has 100 calories, it is an average that was studied in the laboratory. In real life, each individual transforms that food into so much energy that needs, or can,” says nutritionist Fernanda Piscolaro.
She and the physical educator Paula Costa are the guests of this week, which deals with the relationship of obesity with food and physical activity.
It sounds simple, but it is not
The nutritionist reinforces how the mechanism of when you believe. “This calorie spending relationship, calorie input and exit, depends on millions of regulatory, hormone, peptide mechanisms, which mainly regulate hunger and satiety. So, undoubtedly, a food loss that promotes weight loss should have a calorie deficit, but this cannot promote hunger, for example.”
It reinforces the importance of food reeducation. “It is no use burning the start and on a strict and unparalleled diet, because it does not last much time. And the ‘waterfront’ always brings a larger amount of weight than one had before they start this process of aggressive restriction,” he adds.
The same goes for the exercises: it takes proper guidance to start. “It is very frequent, one of the barriers that prevents the individual to stay active, be pain or injury,” explains Paula Costa.
It also reinforces how the relationship of people with obesity and exercise is usually traumatic, as a history of frustration and feeling of failure. “Especially when the person with obesity is linked to the practice of physical activity thinking solely and exclusively on weight loss. Now, if we start explaining more to these people that physical activity has very significant benefits, which goes far beyond the weight of the balance, then we start to bring a more positive and effective relationship.”
Balance should not be the main metric in the treatment of obesity
Costa still reinforces how The balance number is not as significant when it comes to obesity, something pointed out by scientific studies. Measuring the abdominal circumference may be more positive. “The person can lose weight without losing weight. You can increase muscle mass, so one can lose weight even without significant change when they weigh itself.”
Children and adolescents ask for attention
The two experts also warned of the problem of. The abuse of screens has a direct impact on physical in this age group. “This even harms the construction of this individual in relation to the perception of her body. So, in this sense we also have more and more children disconnected from these signs that are the informants about how much I need to eat, if I’m hungry, if I’m tired, for example,” explains Costa.
In terms of food the scenario is no longer encouraging. “Families have lost their habit of eating together, sitting at the table, cooking at home. Anything I’m wanting to eat, I get my cell phone, I ask, and arrive in half an hour. Founds that were to be celebration, which should be part of a special moment, are part of everyday life,” adds Pracolaro. “The children also lost something we had in previous generations that is enjoying simple food. Then it became a punishment to eat vegetables. It seems that I have to eat this to earn a hot thing, and this is not a healthy relationship either.”
