“The campaign is to show, even with videos of that day, what happened. We want to expose to embarrassment the deputies who want to vote the urgency of amnesty, for one of the most serious crimes that may exist,” says the coordinator of Prerogatives, Marco Aurélio de Carvalho.
He says he talked to the PT leader in the House of Representatives, Lindbergh Farias (RJ), about the initiative.
According to Carvalho, it is a paradox that democratically elected deputies defend amnesty to those who wanted to overthrow democracy. “It’s a contradiction in terms,” he said.
The lawyer also states that the Supreme Court may eventually make adjustments to individual penalties that may have had exaggerated punishment.
“But this must be an initiative of the judiciary, not Congress. People are wanting to trivialize something that is very serious,” he said.
