The natural night sky is getting under pressure. Street lamps, flaring signs, building lighting and other artificial light sources contribute to light pollution. According to the Ministry of Climate Protection, only one tenth star is currently visible in Austria due to the brightening of the darkness. An exception is the border triangle between Styria, Upper and Lower Austria. It is one of the regions of Europe that are the least affected by light pollution, according to the environmental roof association. And that should stay that way. 20 municipalities in the three federal states want to protect the darkness and become Austria’s largest star park.
