Trump and Vance departs Susannah Meyers, so far commander of the base in Granelândia

Decision made after JD Vance visited Grolândia

The United States has announced that they had removed Pituffik’s space base commander in Gronelândia due to a “loss of confidence in their leadership capacity,” after the controversial visit by the vice president, JD Vance, to the Semiautonoma Island last month.

“The actions designed to undermine the chain of command or to subvert President Trump’s agenda will not be tolerated in the Defense Department,” wrote Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell, in a statement published on X on Thursday, announcing the removal of Susannah Meyers.

Following Vance’s visit to the island at the end of March, the military.com reported that Meyers sent an email to the base, contesting the vice president’s actions and comments during the trip. Parnell included, in the post he wrote in the X, a link to the history of the military.com.

The news site reported that the deposed commander wrote in an email this: “I do not intend to understand the current policy, but what I know is that the concerns of the US Administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday do not reflect the Pituffik base.”

Colonel Shawn Lee assumed the position of Meyers, according to a press release of the Space Operations Command.

Removal highlights continuous movements for US control over Greenland, as Donald Trump promised to acquire Earth “in one way or another” and Vance repeatedly stated that the island is vulnerable and that the US “had no other option” but increasing its presence there.

Last month, Vance, along with his wife, the second USha Vance lady, visited the US space force’s advanced post in Pituffik, on the northwest coast of Grolândia, 1,000 miles from the capital Nuuk. Usha Vance initially intended to watch a dog -pulled sled race on the island, but the protests and the silent demonstrations that were expected changed their visit.

During his trip, the vice president defended Granelândia American control, which is a semi-by-autonomous territory of Denmark. Vance argued that Greenland would be better “under the US security umbrella than under Denmark’s security umbrella.”

Trump has also spoken openly about the goal of acquiring Granelândia, reiterating that “he will not take anything from the table” to get the island, including the military force, but that there is a “good possibility” of not being needed. The US president also stressed that he is “absolutely” involved in serious discussions about the island’s potential attachment.
