The mayor of Maricá (60 km from) and current vice president of, Washington Quaquá, said on Thursday (10) being a candidate for national leadership of the acronym. The announcement comes in the midst of one, which also tries to office.
In the publication of the candidacy, Quaquá exalted the role of current chief minister of the Government’s Institutional Relations Secretariat (PT) and former president of the party, saying that the petista began the process of revitalization of the group and had a key role in the victory of the current agent in 2022, against ().
He argued to want “a popular PT, within the slums across the country,” and attacked Edinho, stating that the former mayor of Araraquara (270 km) “has never dodged shoes in a community. He does not know what people are. In addition, he cannot unify the party.”
Quaquá’s candidacy puts more wood in the dispute for the head of the PT, which has gained new contours since Sao Paulo Rui Falcão announced to try the place, also in opposition to Edinho Silva.
Falcão hopes to tell compare the party’s internal election. As Edinho has faced – CNB (building a new Brazil) – the attempt is that the launch of candidacies bring the dispute for a second round.
The former mayor of Araraquara, however, has expanded alliances beyond CNB, such as former Minister Paulo Pimenta. His allies count votes that would guarantee him victory in the first round.
Lula, in turn, even attended meetings with party leaders in an attempt to enable an agreement that avoids internal wear. So far, to no avail.
At the center of the dispute is also control of the party’s cash. In February, the PT approved that they have already exercised three consecutive terms in the same legislative home or instance as the acronym. The decision allows the reelection of the party treasurer.
The party’s internal election is scheduled for July. The caption is interimly led by Senator Humberto Costa, since leaving the command to join Lula’s first level.
