Kamala Harris, former vice-president of the United States and candidate defeated by Donald Trump in the 2024 elections, is studying an application in 2026 to the California government, the most populous state in the country and bastion of the Democratic Party, according to the newspaper The New York Times.
This choice would almost certainly discard the possibility of a new presidential race in 2028. But, according to the newspaper, Kamala believes that a victory as a governor would give him a powerful platform to oppose President Trump and defend the priorities of the Democratic Party.
After his defeat in the 2024 elections, when he lost in all decisive states and saw a significant rejection between black and Latin voters, Kamala has been striving to find his way back to politics.
In a recent speech, she expressed her concern for the growing sense of fear in the country, without, however, attacking Trump directly. This caution reflects his current political approach, sailing between a president who uses his executive branch against opponents and a party that calls for more assertive leadership.
The former vice president is also exploring other options besides electoral policy. She hired an agency to evaluate lecture opportunities and a possible book, as well as to study the creation of a university policy institute.
