In Leandro Domingues’ childhood, the school’s return had a must stop at the football camp. Many times, only his backpack arrived at home, sent by his friends to deliver to his mother. The passion for the ball was inherited from his father, amateur player, and an uncle, owner of a soccer school.
“He always enjoyed playing soccer, I think he was really in his DNA. I was already convinced to pursue a career since I was a child,” says brother Kleiton Domingues, 37, also footballer.
At 11, Leandro was discovered in his hometown, Vitória da Conquista, in southwest Bahia. He said he didn’t even touch the ball during the selective and had already been punctuated by Professor Luciano Reis, who justified that a boy who looks over his shoulder has a guaranteed talent.
He moved to Salvador in 1995, at 12, where he joined Vitória base and arrived at the professional in 2001. The midfielder became an idol of Bahian red-black with four passages at the club. He was a Bahian hexac champion and raised the Northeast Cup Cup.
The career was long. He added 426 games and scored 109 goals. In addition to the Lion, he also entered the field for other national clubs, such as Cruzeiro, Fluminense, Portuguese and Betim.
His talent crossed the ocean and arrived in Japan, where he played a decade. He arrived in 2010 for Kashiwa Reysol, who was in the second division. He was the top scorer and took the club to the national elite. The following year, he got the feat of Japanese champion. There, he also defended teams such as Yokohama FC and Nagoya Grampus.
Outside the fields, her hobby also had to do with football. I was very fond of watching match broadcasts, a habit that pulled to the father.
His personality was reserved. “He who looked thought he was very serious. But when he earned the environment and confidence, he opened to the review,” says his brother.
Leandro stopped playing matches in 2022, when he had to retire to take the field against testicle cancer. These were years of a difficult championship that ended on April 1st. He died at age 41 in Salvador.

Vitória issued a note mourning the idol’s death. “It was a real conductor on the field, demonstrating claw and passion for the club.” In the match of the Brasileirão on the 6th, the 30th shirt – which was a starter – took his name and all players used black belt in the arm. The Barradão fans, where he thrashed so much, gave a round of applause.
