The number of fatalities in the collapse of the roof of a disco in Santo Domingo last Tuesday has promoted to 225, the Dominican health authorities have reported this Saturday.
The Minister of Public Health, Víctor Atallah, has offered that data to the media. Until Friday, 221 dead and 189 injured had been reported. The official said that these four new deaths occurred in health centers between yesterday night and early this Saturday.
“The current number of deaths is 225, but this could increase, hopefully not,” said Atallah, at a press conference from the Institute of Forensic Pathology (IPF).
Atallah has also reported that Pathology completed the autopsies of all the deceased and delivered the bodies to their relatives. Most of their statements have been aimed at highlighting the “tireless” work of pathologists and auxiliary personnel in charge of autopsies.
In addition, it has pointed out that about 50 of the deceased resided in the province of San Cristóbal (South), most of these in the municipality of Haina, from where the Rubby Pérez merenguero was from, who enlivened a party at the Jet Set disco and was one of the fatal victims after the collapse of the roof.
Dominican President Luis Abinader said Friday that from now on, he must respond to “what happened, why it happened and how” the tragedy. A day before, its spokesman Homero Figueroa announced that the Government will form a commission of national and international experts with the purpose of determining the causes of the incident that has dismayed to the Dominican Republic.
