A recent federal evaluation of medical graduates revealed that 27.3% of the courses offered by private institutions presented unsatisfactory notes. In contrast, only 6% of public universities courses fell into this category. The data, referring to (National Student Performance Exam) of 2023, were released on Friday (11) by the Ministry of Education and reflect the situation of higher education in Brazil.

The evaluation covered about 31,000 students from 309 medical courses, 190 of them from private colleges. Among these, 52 courses received notes 1 and 2, considered inappropriate. Only 4.7% of private institutions were able to reach a maximum grade of 5. In the public network, 119 courses were analyzed, with 7 obtaining low grades and 35 reaching the maximum grade.

The Minister of Education, expressed his concern about the quality of medical courses in private colleges. In response to this situation, he announced the creation of a new body that will have the function of regulating higher education in the country. It is worth remembering that, in 2018, MEC had already suspended the opening of new medical courses for a period of five years, aiming to ensure the quality of education.

In addition, Inep is considering changes in the medical courses evaluation model, recognizing that the current test has some limitations. ENADE is a mandatory assessment for students of the last year of undergraduate courses.
