“We received with deep sadness and indignation the news of the death of the trader Senegalese Ngange Mbaye, which took place on April 11, 2025, in the Brás neighborhood of Sao Paulo. Once again, a black man, migrant and worker has his life violently interrupted in a context of repression and excessive police approach.

Ngange Mbaye worked as a street vendor when he was approached by military police.

Cases like this reveal how institutionalized violence continues to make victims, especially among black, peripheral and migrant populations. These are lives treated as disposable, in a cruel cycle of exclusion and neglect.

We express our solidarity with the Ngange family, the Senegalese community and all migrant people who, daily, face racism, xenophobia and precariousness in their work and survival routines.

It is essential that there is a rapid, transparent and impartial investigation into the case, with the proper accountability of those involved and the adoption of concrete measures so that tragedies like this are not repeated. ”
