The Syrian Interior Ministry announced on Saturday Securing approximately four million Captagon drugs – amphetamine -like stimulantthat were to be exported from the port city of Lazikíja. TASR reports according to AFP.
The Drug Department of the Syrian Interior Ministry on the Telegram platform informed that the pills were “Professionally hidden in 5,000 metal bars” and discovered in warehouses in the port. Lazikia is located on the Mediterranean coast. In this area, respectively the province of the same name, there is a concentrated minority of Alavites, including deposed President Bashar Assad and his family.
During the civil war, which broke out in Syria in 2011 and thus during the Assad regime, Captagon became the largest export article of Syria, AFP said. From Assad’s deposition, which occurred in December 2024, the new Syrian leadership of millions of tablets of this drug in warehouses or also military bases in the country has been found.
