The president today called on Congress to legislate to abolish the change of time in the US and to adopt on a permanent basis.
“The House of Representatives and the Senate must be activated to have more sun at the end of the day,” he said in his post on the Truth Social platform. This measure is “very popular”, assured, and, which is “even more important”, means that “we would no longer need to change the time in the watches – a big fuss – and, for the state, a costly event!”
In December, Trump had already requested to abolish the change of time every six months, but then he had stated that he wanted to abolish the summer time, as opposed to the majority of Republicans. So it seems that now it has changed their minds.
Elon Musk, his billionaire partner, had begun a poll on the X platform in late November, according to which 80% wanted the summer time to be abolished. “It seems that people want to abolish the irritating changes of time,” the current head of the government’s effectiveness service wrote.
In 2022 the Republicans had proposed a bill by which the US would adopt on a permanent basis at summer time. The measure was unanimously adopted in the Senate, but was not introduced to the House to vote. With the abolition of time change, in some states, in the winter it would be very late in the morning. The measure was then supported by today’s Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, who spoke of “outdated perception, a source of nuisance and confusion”. He even argued that the time change is responsible for the increase in “heart attacks and traffic accidents”.
In Europe, the European Parliament has approved the abolition of time change in 2019, but the implementation of the measure has been postponed many times since then.
