Brazilian Diego Lopes loses fight for UFC belt

Alexander Volkanovski is again champion of the UFC penalties.

The Australian beat Brazilian Diego Lopes by unanimous decision (48/47, 49/46 and 49/46), and recovered the belt he had lost to Ilia Topria last year. The duel took place at dawn on Sunday (13) in Miami, United States.

Topria abandoned the feathers category to try to be champion among the light ones. The reasons were the difficulties in cutting weight and the lack of interest in the division. With Ilia’s decision, he marked the duel between Volkanovski and Diego Lopes.

Diego lived a good time, but was dominated in much of the combat. After the fight, the Manauara, based on, lamented the defeat and promised to return in search of the belt.

“Guys, sorry to disappoint you. I’m going back stronger. It was an honor to fight Volkanovski. Unfortunately it was not my turn, but I will come back stronger,” said Diego Lopes after losing the dispute for the feather belt.

The fight

It was a big fight between Volkanovski and Diego Lopes. The duel, which occurred basically standing, was of great exchange among the athletes. The Australian hit more blows, while the Brazilian got the most powerful.

Diego Lopes lived a good time in the fight, came close to the knockout in the second round, but could not impose himself as the rival, who strictly followed the strategy with many blows and being touched at few opportunities.

With combat control longer, Volkanovski was announced as winner of the duel by unanimous decision.
