A Russian air attack has left at least 31 dead, including two children, and 84 wounded, seven of them children, in the Ukrainian city of Sumy, located in the northeast of the country and near the border with Russia, according to the last balance provided by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

The Interior Minister of Ukraine, Igor Klimenko, has reported in his telegram messaging platform account that several ballistic missiles have impacted this morning in the city center. The area achieved was crowded with people who were at that time on Palm Sunday, added the minister, who has asked the population to refrain from going to the area to facilitate evacuation and attention to the injured.

The Ukrainian prime minister, Denis Shmihal, has confirmed shortly after they have been particularly affected “buildings and residences of the State University of Sumy”, which have ended up “destroyed” in a “cynical and violent attack.”

However, and as explained by the governor of the homonymous region, Volodimir Artiuj, most of the victims were traveling on a bus reached by one of these projectiles, the first of them, explained, a “cluster bomb”, as later confirmed the head of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak.

The president of the country, Volodimir Zelenski, has already denounced “the terrible attack with Russian ballistic missiles.” “Only an unclean scum can act like this, snatching life from common people,” said the Ukrainian president.

“Without pressure on Russia, peace is impossible. Conversations have never stopped ballistic missiles or aerial bombs. What is needed is an attitude towards Russia that a terrorist deserves,” he added.

Russia has not yet pronounced on this incident.
