The façade of a house in the Park of the Dam, neighborhood of farms away from the center of, in the interior of São Paulo, destroys from the neighborhood. The glasses that separate the residence from the sidewalk are covered by black canvas, and at the gate there is no intercom or bell. To talk to painter Nilton Cesar dos Santos, just clapping to provoke the dog’s bark.

“The kids have smiled again, but it’s not easy, right? We are not having psychological support,” he says, who refused to open the gate and only let himself see for some cracks. “What am I going to say to you? Just wait,” he said.

He referred to the trial of his wife, of the 39 -year -old, who became known for Pichar, with lipstick, the expression “lost, Mané”, in the statue “The Justice”, which is facing the Supreme Court (STF), during the scammer attacks of January 8, 2023.

The graffiti reproduced a phrase from Dita to Bolsonarists in New York, just after the presidential elections.

Deborah is accused of five crimes: coup d’état, attempted abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, deterioration of the listed heritage, qualified damage of public heritage and armed criminal association.

At the end of March, the hairdresser born in Irecê, Bahia left the Rio Claro Penitentiary, also in the interior of São Paulo, where he was two years detained. He began to serve house arrest at that address of Paulínia, a city in the region of Campinas, 119 km from the state capital, with her husband and children – a 11 -year -old and one of 8.

In its decision, it imposed restrictions on it, such as the use of an electronic anklet and the ban on giving interviews and using social networks. Deborah cannot receive visits, except for parents, siblings and lawyers, nor communicate with involved in the invasion of the three powers.

Deborah’s husband concretely closed the door of the salon where she served the customers. According to him, the family has been living for two years, only of its services as a painter.

Studio D sign, Hairdresser’s initial, is still there on the same ground of the house. Santos states that Deborah has cried frequently. “We are not receiving help from anyone, we only have help from the family. It’s us for us,” says the husband, who refuses to lengthen the conversation to detail his wife’s story and express his opinions about the episode.

Deborah’s trial was suspended by Minister Luiz Fux’s request for a view, who said he sees exacerbated penalties in some cases. Until then, there was a sentence of 14 years.

The history of Paulinia’s hairdresser became a symbol of the debate by amnesty to the convicts on January 8, which so mobilized the Bolsonarists. President Lula’s allies (PT) say the goal is to use the text to deliver former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) of punishment by the coup plot.

Last week, Bolsonaro took Deborah’s mother, Maria de Fátima, and her sister, Claudia, to the stage of a demonstration on Paulista Avenue, in São Paulo, to press the president of the House of Representatives, to vote on the story.

With just over 115,000 inhabitants, Paulínia has in Replan, Petrobras refinery, her main source of income. In the 2000s, there was an attempt to diversify the economy, with the creation of a film hub, but the idea was not forward.

Thus, the studio, between 2013 and 2018, Paulínia had 12 mayors in a scenario of political instability. Bolsonarism was the only force that stabilized in power.

The former president had 59% of the votes in the city, in the second round against Lula (PT). In 2018, he had won 71% against Fernando Haddad (PT).

The hegemony of the PL began with Du Cazellato’s mandates as mayor, who exchanged the PSDB for PL in 2019. Last year, Cazellato went to his ally, Danilo Barros (PL), who began the political trajectory on the PCdoB and, after a move to PR in 2016, ended in Bolsonaro’s party.

He refused the request for an interview about Deborah, following a trend of the elected councilors, none of them from a leftist acronym. Only Councilman Fábio Valadão (PL) agreed to speak. “I don’t know Deborah, the family or the process. I know she suffered for hell. I hope there is justice, the penalty I find excessive,” he said.

Outside the House, there are three monuments that replicate the Organic Law of the Municipality, alongside the Constitution and the Bible, where you can read the verse “This is my commandment: love each other, just as I loved you.”

A. Although no one ceases to express support for the Bolsonarist guidelines, all the people heard by the report denied having seen or known Deborah, as if she had become a taboo.

“The rope breaks for the weaker. It is right to do a deep investigation into what happened. It was not an attempt to blow, but a way to break Lula,” says bricklayer Jacob Zacarias, 62.

“I don’t know Deborah. I’m Purple Boconist. Why 14 years? I think Moraes is Lula,” says merchant Jonas Santos, 49. He declares himself a Christian and CAC (collector, sportsman and hunter) and, in his animal ration store, proudly shows the pampering and gas weapons he sells.

“I’ve heard of her case, but I don’t know her. Our city has always been right. I’m left and Catholic, a minority. I think what she did was damage to the heritage of the people. Fourteen years is little,” says watchmaker Maciel de Souza, 60.

Professor of Constitutional Law at UFPR (Federal University of Paraná), Vera Chueiri also says he does not see the penalty as excessive. She emphasizes that Deborah is not accused only of graffiti, but by a set of crimes against democracy. “It was not mere chance. This episode means the disdain that these people have about institutions,” he says.

In Paulínia, the buzz is not political. People look more interested in the pawn party, which takes place this weekend. Country duo Zé Neto and Cristiano is one of the attractions of the event. In 2022, Zé Neto stated at Bolsonaro and still cursed the Supreme during a presentation.

The city is 37 km from Santa Barbara do Oeste ,. People in the region often go to Campinas, the largest surrounding city.

Deborah, for example, attended one of several temples of the Seventh -day Adventist Church, which were erected in the city. Adepts of the denomination believe that we live in the purposes of the times, preach rest on Saturdays and have specific health care, often avoiding meat and coffee.

Anthropologist Raphael Scheffer Kalil, who wrote the book “Believers,” says there is a concentration of Adventist churches around Campinas, where the universities of the denomination were installed. He says Bolsonaro made Adventists nod when, in 2019, he sanctioned the law that ensures the right of these people to miss classes or tests on Saturday days.

“Adventists have theological particularities that are rejected or seen with suspicion by most evangelicals,” he says. “There is a connection from the church with Bolsonaro, but it is no different from evangelicals.”

In testimony, Debora said she paid $ 50 from her own pocket to travel to Brasilia, where she arrived on January 7, a Saturday, and slept at the camp against the Army headquarters.

He also stated that the trial of Débora Rodrigues dos Santos should be, a Friday, in the virtual plenary of the court.
