Your windows can shine again! A simple homemade recipe that overcomes expensive cleaning products and returns the original shine to your windows.
The new window frames boast perfect white, but after a few years they will subside with yellowish smudges. At first they are inconspicuous, but gradually more pronounced, until they finally beat the eyes every time they look at the window sill. However, expensive bleaching means from the store are not the only solution. Just reach for a home cleaning paste of the ingredients you probably have in the kitchen cabinet.
Why will your white frames yellow over time? We revealed the cause
The yellowed window frames are the result of several processes. The plastic, from which the frames are most often made, oxidizes over time. This chemical process leads to the disintegration of bonds in the plastic structure and the gradual loss of its bright, white color.
In addition, the action of external impurities is added. Dust, streets or exhaust gases settle on the frame surface and form a thin, difficult to remove layer. Over time, these particles penetrate the plastic and give it a yellowish shade.
The role of ultraviolet radiation, which falls on the frames, cannot be remembered. UV rays penetrate the top layer of plastic and cause photodegradation. The longer the frames are exposed to the sun, the faster they lose their original whiteness.
Golden rules of cleaning that save you money and nerves
Cleaning of window frames is based on several practical principles. The first is regularity – just take a few minutes to shake the frames once a week to stop the impurity deposition process.
Another principle is the selection of suitable tools.
Plastic frames are easily scratched, so use exclusively soft materials, such as a cotton cloth or microfiber. In addition, the hard sponges or wires are completely excluded from cleaning as they could irreversibly damage the surface.
The method of application of the detergent is also important. Apply the paste evenly, covering the entire surface with a thin layer. It is best to do it in a circular motion to get to the corners or slots for seals.
The last phase is a thorough rinse. After wiping the frames, remove its residues with lukewarm water. Finally, wipe the frames with a dry cloth to prevent the smudges.
Beware of these funds! May your windows irreversibly damage
Not all means are suitable for cleaning plastic window frames. Chlorine -based bleaches act destructively on plastic. In contact with PVC, they cause a chemical reaction that breaks down the surface of the material. Instead of whiteness, brown or gray spots often appear on the frames.
Another danger is the harsh structure tools, such as wires or cleaning powders with abrasive particles. These plastic products leave visible traces and scratches that darken and matte over time.
Similarly, detergents that manufacturers have not determined for plastic cleaning, especially strong means for washing floors or kitchen degreers, are also problematic. Many of them contain chemicals that do not respond compatible with PVC and can therefore cause various damage.
