Thousands of people from Serbia, Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina arrived on Saturday by buses to the Assembly to Belgrade, which was organized to support Serbian President Aleksandar Vučič. This was reported by Reuters, according to which this demonstration is considered Vučič’s response to the ongoing students led by anti -government protests, writes TASR.
Vučič at the Assembly performed late in the evening and announced the establishment of his new political movement, which he believes to “bring new energy” to the country and also “eliminate arrogant political officials who refuse to talk to people”.
At least 55,000 people
“Every worker, every farmer, every person who honestly feeds and fights for his children and his country, is welcome,” he told the crowd of his supporters.
The Public Assembly Archive, which monitors the size of the crowds, estimated that at least 55,000 people participated in the Belgrade Assembly.
The event began on Friday, when Vučič and ministers joined the followers and together carried a 200 meter long Serbian flag, which, according to the President, was “the greatest in history”.
The support of the minister and the stalls
On Saturday afternoon, thousands of people, according to AFP, predominantly pensioners, some of whom were dressed in traditional costumes, walked past the stalls built in the center of Belgrade. The stalls offered free grilled meat, sausages, wine or local fruit brandy.
According to the French agency, several municipalities organized transport for President’s supporters. In addition, they were invited by SMS to “come in time and to express strongly supporting” Vučič’s Serbian progressive side.
International arrest warrant
The meeting was also personally appeared by the leader of the Bosnian Serbs Milorad Dodik, on which the Bosnian authorities are issued an international arrest warrant. In a speech from the stage, he said that Vučič “is today the only man who can maintain strong and powerful Serbia, both in the internal and foreign policy … especially in these very unstable times”.
Vučiča at the distance was also supported by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. He said in the video sosques that “foreign powers want to tell the Serbs how to live”, and assured that “Serbian patriots could rely on the Hungarian ones”.
Anti -riding protests
Serbia is currently shaking anti -government protests led by students. They are a reaction to the collapse of a concrete superstructure above the entrance to the railway station in Nový Sad. This tragedy occurred on November 1, 2024 and 16 people died, mostly students.
Part of the Serbian public associates this tragedy with corruption, which in their country influences the daily lives, activities of government institutions and the implementation of buildings. Under the pressure of the protests, several Serbian officials, including Prime Minister Miloš Vučevič, resigned.
Vučič claims that anti -government protests threaten the peace and stability of Serbia and accuse their participants that they are paid by “foreign intelligence services”. He again described these demonstrations on Saturday as a “attack from abroad”.
