Rare talks about the Iranian among them and ended today in Oman, with Tehran underlining a “constructive climate” during the talks with Washington.

Iranian diplomatic leader Abbas Aragsi and Steve Whitkov, US President Donald Trump envoy, “talked to a constructive climate based on mutual respect,” the Iranian foreign minister said.

Iran and the US, which today held rare talks on the Iranian nuclear program in Oman for two and a half hours, will continue their talks next week, according to Iranian diplomacy.

Abbas Arakzi and American envoy Steve Whitkov “agreed to continue talks next week,” a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry said without specifying the site. Arakzi and Whitkov had a “short” direct conversation, added to the announcement.

Foreign Minister Oman Badr Al Busidi, who had a mediator role during the talks, said the talks were held in a “cordial climate”.

The head of Oman’s diplomacy added that he is “proud” who had a mediator role in talks between Iranian counterpart Abbas Arakzi and Steve Whitkov “in order to embark on a process of dialogue and negotiation,” between the last two countries.

The second round of negotiations

“They don’t want” negotiations “perpetuated,” said Iranian diplomat leader Abbas Aragsi, following consultations with US envoy Steve Witkov.

“Neither we nor the other side want fruitless negotiations, discussions about the simple pleasure of the debate, a waste of time and negotiations that are perpetuated,” Araci said, clarifying that a new meeting would take place “next Saturday”.

On April 19, he stressed, and the aim is to discuss the wide framework of a possible agreement. He added that the place of talks may not be in Oman, but they will continue to take place with Oman mediation.

Tehran and Washington are “very close” to an agreement on the content of future negotiations, according to Abbas Aragsi.

“During the meeting (today), I think we got close to a negotiation basis,” Araki told state television. “If we can finish it at the next meeting, we will have a large part of the road,” he added.
