Chilean Public Security Minister Luis Cordero announced the end of the insurance stadium on Monday after the violent episode near the monumental stadium that resulted in the death of two lap fans.
According to the minister, the initiative, which crossed different management, did not fulfill its purpose. “The Seguro stadium was a program in which all governments invested significant efforts, but for several reasons – some linked to the system itself – it failed. As a operation regime, as a plan in its design and structure, the insurance stadium failed,” Cordero said.
Cordero also pointed out that the creation of Seguro stadium was linked to a model of organization and participation that, at the time, made sense within the attributions of the Ministry of Interior – responsibilities that were now transferred to the Ministry of Public Security. According to him, the legislation also evolved, especially in the rules related to the holding of large events.
