The EU effective the suspension of tariffs in response to the partial truce of the USA

The European Commission has given this Monday the legal steps necessary to freeze the tariffs that it had decreed in response to the encumbrances of President Donald Trump to steel and aluminum, according to the “pause button” agreed last week after Washington announced in turn a partial tariff truce. The measure, which seeks to give “time and space to the United UE-EU negotiations”, has been executed shortly before the Commission of Commerce, Maros Sefcovic, begins his meeting in Washington with his American couple, Howard W. Lutnick.

As announced by the European Executive, the EU approved two legal acts. The first, is the imposition of European response measures to the levies of President Donald Trump to steel and aluminum, for a total of 21,000 million euros and whose first phase had to go into force on Tuesday. It won’t. The second legal act carried out by the twenty -seven “suspends all measures until July 14, 2025”, thus giving three months of space to the new negotiations.

In the statement in which it informs of these legal steps that execute the European Pause button, the Commission has underlined once again that it is a decision that can be reversed at any time if the conversations do not advance.

“As President von der Leyen said, the EU wants to give her a chance to negotiations, but if these are not satisfactory, European countermeasures will begin,” he warned, once again reiterating the position of the twenty -seven: “The EU considers that US tariff global”.
