Google Cloud () executives in Latin America and Brazil believe leaders are responsible for integrating daily diversity principles. “We may have no indicators, but the indicator is in the leader’s head,” said Google Director Cloud Latam, Eduardo López, about the end of minority group representation goals in the company.
“We always have to be aligned with global changes,” López said in an interview at the Google Cloud Next 25 ′ event.
In February, Wall Street Journal published that Google, one of the Alphabet controller companies, warned its employees no longer hiring minority groups and would review diversity, equity and inclusion programs (Dei). By 2020, the company had committed to having 30% of the leadership positions held by sub-reported groups.
For the first time since 2021, Alphabet’s annual report has not included an excerpt saying that the company is “committed to making diversity, equity and inclusion starts from everything we do and develop a workforce that is representative of users we serve”.
According to Google Cloud Country Manager in Brazil, Ricardo Fernandez, the company implements a different environment in the operation in the country in search of innovation: “It generates wealth”.
“When one thinks of artificial intelligence four years ago, the great concentration of developers in the United States is based on two or three cities,” says Fernandez. “The vast majority of developers were white students. There will always be a bias if there is no such concern. It even impacts it on use.”
