The Public Prosecution Service of argued representation that accused the mayor () of using the municipal machine in his candidacy for reelection last year.
The plaintiff, Councilman Toninho Vespoli (PSOL), cited the summons of municipal civil servants of the Urban Infrastructure Secretariats and Works, Education, Management and Urban Safety and the Center for Labor and Entrepreneurship Support (Cate) to participate in election campaign acts.
After hearing witnesses, however, prosecutor Ricardo Manuel Castro stated that “nothing concrete was determined about the convening of these employees to participate in the investigated campaign acts, not even about the use of the Secretariat’s premises or goods in these campaign acts.”
He added that Nunes’ participation in official acts of the City Hall during the election period is not recommended, but is not prohibited by law.
“We present in writing the necessary clarifications, contributing to the demonstration of lack of illicit conduct,” said lawyer Fernando José da Costa, who defends the mayor.
The decision of the prosecutor will now be analyzed by the Superior Council of the Public Prosecution Service, which can referend to it or not.
