Borussia Dortmund, one of Germany’s most traditional clubs, is just one of the country’s three teams to have won a Champions League in history – the other two are Bayern Munich and Hamburg.

The team was champion of the tournament in the 1996/97 season. At that time, he spent second place in Group B, with Atletico Madrid qualifying first.
In the knockout, he took France’s Auxerre with 3-1 and 1-0 triumphs, England’s Manchester United, winning both games 1-0, and hit Juventus in the big decision 3-1.
Lars Ricken and Karl-Heinz Riedle were the scorers of Dortmund that year, with four goals each.

In addition to the 1996/97 title, Dortmund arrived in two other Champions League finals. In 2012/13, he lost Bayern Munich the decision 2-1. In 2023/24, the defeat went to Real Madrid, 2-0.
