The federal judge blocked the Trump administration plan to withdraw legal status by hundreds of thousands of migrants from Latin America.

On Monday, the federal judge blocked the decision of US President Donald Trump’s administration to remove the legal status of hundreds of thousands of immigrants from Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua and Haiti. TASR reports this according to Tuesday’s report AFP.

The verdict of Judge Indiry Talwani in Boston is the last step against the promotion of mass deportations by Trump’s administration, which are targeted mainly to persons from Latin America.

The administration announced in March that it was planning to remove the legal status of approximately 532,000 Cubans, the Haitians, the Nicaraguins and the Venezuelans who came to the US as part of a humanitarian program allowing a temporary stay in the country. The program was originally launched in October 2022 by former President Joe Biden.

‘The court grants an extraordinary exception’, suspending the cancellation of the processes under a program that allows a temporary stay in the US for the above -mentioned nationalities, Talwani said in her resolution. Through the program, persons from these four countries, who, according to AFP are known for non -compliance with human rights, could come to the United States for two years, including 30,000 migrants per month.

In her regulation, Talwani made it clear that Trump’s administration acted on the basis of a misinterpretation of immigration law. Accelerated deportations apply to persons without nationality who have entered the United States illegally. This does not apply to people with a US -stay permit, for example through a program.

Trump promised to deport “millions” of migrants without documents during his second term. He focused his pre -election campaign on illegal immigration.
