Real Madrid’s Croatian midfielder Luka Modrić, Golden Ball in 2018, became Swansea’s minority and co-owner, announced on Monday (14) the Welsh club, currently on Championship, the second division of English football.
“Luka’s investment in the club is a recognition of the club’s ambition and vision. He will have a key role helping the club to draw the attention of the whole world and progress, both on and off the field,” the group said in a statement.
Swansea, owned by an American consortium since 2016, has not specified the value of the investment made by the 39 -year -old Croatian star.
“It’s an exciting opportunity. Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible crowd and the ambition to compete at the highest level,” Modrić said, adding that his role will be to bring the “experience” to the elite the current Championship classified and with remote possibilities to enter the Premier League access playoff, which she last played in 2018.
Modrić thus joins other companions at Real Madrid who recently invested in soccer clubs such as Kylian Mbappé, a majority shareholder of SM Caen (French Second Division) and Vinicius Junior, from FC Alverca (Portuguese Second Division).
