Rutte and Greens discussed the need for air defense after a tragic attack on the amounts that required 35 victims.
NATO Secretary -General Mark Rutte arrived on Tuesday for an unannounced visit to the Ukrainian city of Odessa, where he met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Greeny. Rutte condemned the “terrible way” in which Russia is leading attacks on Ukrainian civilians. Greeding told NATO boss that Ukraine acutely needs other air defense systems. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.
Rutte visited Odees only two days after Russia attacked two two ballistic missiles on the city on Sunday. The rockets, one of which allegedly contained cassette ammunition, hit the city center, where there were at that time a number of civilians. 35 people have lost their lives, including two children and more than 100 of them were injured, of which 15 were minors. Russia claims that the rocket was hit by the award ceremony to the Ukrainian soldiers, as recently as possible by some Ukrainian officials.
“The Ukrainians have suffered a lot – last but not least, Russia’s attack on the sums on Palm Sunday. NATO support will not get off. We will continue to help Ukraine to defend ourselves and discourage future aggression, thus ensuring fair and permanent peace,” Rutte wrote on X.
He said that they visited a hospital in Odessa, where Ukrainian soldiers are recovering from injuries and handing over the awards to the soldiers and healthcare professionals.
According to AFP, the head of NATO expressed support for the efforts of US President Donald Trump to achieve a ceasefire and a possible permanent peace between Ukraine and Russia. At the same time, however, he noted that this effort led by the US “is not easy – and not at all after this terrible violence”.
Odesa was recently visited by Czech President Petr Pavel, who met there with Ukrainian officials, including Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Olexija Kuleb. During his visit, Russia made an extensive drone attack on the Odess region.
